Â鶹´«Ã½ University demonstrated its commitment to community responsibility and engagement with a $1,530 donation to the Samaritan House of Orangeburg. The funds were raised from donations by Â鶹´«Ã½ administrators, faculty and staff during the University's annual Christmas Dinner hosted by President Henry N. and First Lady Alice Carson Tisdale on Dec. 10 at the Orangeburg Country Club.
"The administrators, faculty and staff at Â鶹´«Ã½ are proud of the University's commitment to supporting initiatives that improve the lives of residents throughout the Orangeburg community," said Dr. Tisdale.
"The Samaritan House is widely-respected for helping those in our community who are less fortunate. One of Â鶹´«Ã½'s guiding principles speaks to valuing people, both inside and outside the walls of the university," he added. "This is consistent with Â鶹´«Ã½'s motto, 'Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.' " The Samaritan House is a faith-based non-profit organization that provides shelter, meals and other services to homeless families and children and transitional housing to homeless men. The Middleton Street operation serves the homeless from Bamberg, Calhoun and Orangeburg counties. In 2012, the agency was named one of South Carolina's top charities.
